À cœurs ouverts (With Open Hearts)
Musée Dobrée, Nantes, France
- 17 October 2025
- 1 March 2026
The exhibition À cœurs ouverts (With Open Hearts) offers a unique exploration of the heart, both a vital organ and a universal symbol, through more than 200 works from the museum’s collections and loans.
In keeping with the Dobrée Museum’s spirit of curiosity and openness, the exhibition questions the place of the heart in our lives, beliefs and representations, from antiquity to the present day. With Open Hearts invites you on a sensitive and erudite journey, combining art, history, science and popular culture. How does today’s ‘like’ resonate with ancient funeral rites? What is the connection between the heart on Valentine’s Day cards and the heart that beats in our chests?
From 19th-century stethoscopes to Andy Warhol’s silkscreen prints, medieval reliquaries, Egyptian amulets and works by Annette Messager, Édouard Boyer and Christian Boltanski, the exhibition weaves a unique dialogue between art, science, history and spirituality.
The exhibition includes the installation Coeur, 2005 (on loan from the Antoine de Galbert Collection).
The project Les Archives du Cœur will be reactivated for the duration of the exhibition.
